Illegal Immigrant Arrests Down
|
Arrests at the border have dropped to levels not seen in 30 years.
Arrests of illegal immigrants on the U.S.-Mexico border have fallen to levels unseen since the 1970s as the ailing U.S. economy and enhanced enforcement appear to be deterring people from trekking north.Just something to remember when republicans start screaming about the illegals in their coming campaigns for seats in 2010.
The trend is apparent from San Diego to Brownsville, Texas, but is most dramatically felt on the border's busiest illegal immigrant corridors, which extend through the Mexican state of Sonora to Arizona and California.

Why do you use the xenophobic framing of "illegal immigrants" versus "undocumented immigrants?"
Because I'm a xenophobe?
Come on now.
I prefer to talk like real person. not some ultra-pc George Lakoff cultist.
Republicans don't use the term "undocumented immigrant"...they use the term "illegal immigrant"... and that's when they're being nice.
So come campaign time when the GOP tries to make immigration an issue and people start doing google searches for "illegal immigrants" maybe there's a chance that this page will come up, which shows the problem might not be as big as they are making it out to be.
To imply that somebody is xenophobic because they don't use the framing you prefer though, is just ridiculous and does nothing to win me sympathy to your argument...whatever that argument may be.
